Thoughts and ideas are more complex than any system of files and folders. You can try organizing notes or documents that need your attention in folders and sub-folders and you could use a specialized application to manage your appointments, but you may still miss certain events or important pieces of information. A smarter approach is to organize everything with TheBrain. This appropriately named application provides you with the flexibility you need to organize anything worth remembering, according to your own thought patterns. At its core, TheBrain is a mind mapping application. It comes with the same functionality as other mind mapping tools, but its smart and elegant design makes it more comfortable and easy to use, which is exactly what anyone needs to organize their ideas in a logical manner.

TheBrain is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, as well as iOS and Android mobile platforms. It comes in Free and Pro editions and you can try the paid version free of charge for 30 days. When the trial version expires, you can either continue with the free version or upgrade. The software can be installed in less than a minute and it does not ask for too many resources or additional tools.

You can use TheBrain like any other mind mapping application. When you start a new project, called a brain, the software will automatically create the first node. New nodes can be added instantly, just by clicking and dragging a connection point from an existing node. The nodes are beautifully animated and you can switch between different display modes, zoom in and out and more.

Besides naming a new node, you can also assign tags and attach files, folders, URLs or other elements. The software allows you to attach existing files and folders, but you can also create new documents, archives, Access databases and take screenshots, on the software's interface. If you create a new item, TheBrain will automatically attach it to your selected node. Clicking and dragging files over the interface is another way of attaching them to new or existing nodes.

Attached items are represented by small icons on the nodes themselves. Clicking these icons will open their corresponding attachments immediately. Additionally, if you attach a screenshot, you can preview it just by hovering with the mouse cursor over its icon. It is also possible to assign one or more events to individual nodes. You can specify an event's start and end dates, make it recurring, set up reminders, prioritize it or mark it as fully or partially completed.

Pros

TheBrain makes it easy to map out thoughts and ideas. It provides a comfortable interface, with easy to understand options and neat animations. You can attach files, find nodes and perform other actions with only a few clicks.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to mention. TheBrain gives you the possibility of organizing anything, from simple thoughts to complex ideas, according to your own logic.
